“The combination of Palin’s attractiveness as a candidate and her ability to expose liberals made her a celebrity among Republicans. The only thing I have against her is that she threatens to surpass me in attracting the left’s hatred.”
Remember this guy who said marital rape wasn’t really a problem about 20 years ago? Well looks like he won’t be enforcing laws anytime soon. Wayne Anthony Ross (or as he calls himself, WAR) was rejected by the Alaska state legislature yesterday for a position as Attorney General of the state.
The senate voted 35-23 against confirming Sarah Palin’s pick. The vote against him included 9 Republicans! Maybe it’s because of this fun quote of his:
“If a guy can’t rape his wife…who’s he gonna rape?” and “There wouldn’t be an issue with domestic violence if women would learn to keep their mouths shut.”
I am so LOL-ing!!!
But the very heavy Democratic opposition to WAR wasn’t just the fact that he’s a member of the National Rifle Association, has defended the KKK, and has called gays, “degenerates.” According to the New York Times:
The governor had also offended Democrats by rejecting their choices for an open State Senate seat. They responded by rejecting her nominees, and questions then arose over whether one side or the other was violating the Senate appointment process.
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is just the gift that keeps on giving. Her pick for the new Attorney General of Alaska — the state’s top lawyer, given the task of enforcing the law — is, as expected, freaking creepy.
Wayne Anthony Ross is a prominent attorney, and has represented many of the members of the organization Dads Against Discrimination (now known as the Alaska Family Support Group). This group is a bunch of guys basically trying to avoid paying child support. Real classy.
Addressing the group in the early 1990s in a Denny’s (where else, right?!), he pulled out a couple of these doozies:
“If a guy can’t rape his wife…who’s he gonna rape?” and “There wouldn’t be an issue with domestic violence if women would learn to keep their mouths shut.”
Also, Ross has used language like “degenerate” or “immoral” to describe gays, though he’s still described by peers and adversaries as having integrity.
Yup, that’s the guy I want enforcing laws that are supposed to protect me — confirm him ASAP!! Especially because it turns out that this guy is a prolific writer. Some choice headlines from old op-eds he wrote for the Anchorage Daily News and the Anchorage Times :
“KKK ‘ Art’ Project Gets’ A’ For Courage”, The Anchorage Times, December 1991.
” Animal Activists Real Enemy”, The Anchorage Times, 2 December 1990.
“Hunters In Danger Of Losing All Hunting Rights”, The Anchorage Times, 28 January 1990. (Ed. Note: I bet that wasn’t true at ALL)
“False Reports Of Child Sexual Abuse Devastate Families And Children”, The Anchorage Times, 28 July 1991; Speak Out For Families, December 1993.
In an interview with Greta van Sustren on Fox News, new teen mom Bristol Palin, the daughter of former veep candidate Sarah Palin stated the obvious: Abstinence is great, but abstience-only education ain’t realistic…
It’s unfortunate because she’s turned out to be the GOP’s example of the classic take-responsibility-for-your-actions-and-have-a-shotgun-wedding. I’m all for having the choice of doing what is right for you and your family. And I do believe that if the Palins weren’t in the spotlight when Bristol got knocked up, they probably still would have made the same plans, but
According to some Rasmussen poll, a majority of Republicans believe the party needs to be more conservative, like thier new icon and former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Fourty three percent say the party’s been too moderate since Bush stepped into office (WHAT?! Can those people read?!). Another 55 % say they should follow the doctrine of Alaska’s governor.
Here’s what the Democrats had to say:
Nearly two-thirds of Democrats (64%), however, say the Republican Party has been too conservative, and 42% think it should look to McCain for the future. Twelve percent (12%) of Democratic voters see Palin as a future role model, and 40% aren’t sure what’s best for their rivals.
And I think there’s a reason that 6 percent of Democrats think the Republicans should be more emblematic of George Bush’s leadership…perhaps it’s the same reason for the 11 percent of Republicans who agree.
Sarah Palin, extending her 15 minutes, is already looking forward (possibly to 2012), with a political action committee based in Arlington, Virginia. Ironic because it’s not part of the real Virginia.
According to HuffPo, a Palin surrogate says SarahPAC is “dedicated to building America’s future, supporting fresh ideas and candidates who share our vision for reform and innovation.”
I wonder if the “candidate” above refers to a certain groundbreaking, heel-wearing, gun-toting GOP candidate for 2012…?
