What will Joe do?

As Barack Obama is outlining his cabinet, and team of advisers, I am here wondering what Joe Biden will be doing in the upcoming administration. Perhaps his strongest credential to me was his years on the senate foreign relations committee — it was the main reason why I thought he should be vice president. However, with Hillary Clinton taking the post as Secretary of State, will he really be able to take that on as his big cause of the administration? George H.W. Bush fought drug abuse and called for financial deregulation; Al Gore had the environment and technology; Dick Cheney had defense, and general tomfoolery.

It makes me wonder, What Will Biden Do? Here’s a few issues (aside from the foreign stuff) that he might be privy to:

  • Biden used to be the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he passed the Biden Crime Bill, putting more cops on the streets and upping federal support for law enforcement; he proposed the White House install a “Drug Czar;” and, one of his more prominent bills, the Violence Against Women Act.
  • He seems to be fairly involved with worker’s rights, and labor. He’s a proponent of OSHA, the Family Medical Leave Act, the expansion of Head Start, wage regulations, and curtailing exporting jobs overseas.
  • Biden’s getting up there in age, so he might find working on elder’s rights and the expansion of medical care.
  • Perhaps Biden would concentrate his knowledge of defense and foreign affairs to focus on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The way he has been talking about both wars has seemed pretty smart to me.

The Crazy Ductape Woman on a Plane

Posted on 10 November 2008 by Michelle

Yeah, I don’t know if you heard about this woman from Oswego, N.Y. who was duct taped on a United flight to restrain herself because she was acting so damn crazy.

I head about her days ago, and I thought, “Of course, someone from Oswego [where I attended undergraduate school] would be acting a fool on the plane.”

But then, my boyfriend pointed out that the crazy woman on the plane was ESTHER the crazy Hairdresser who cackled in the bottom of the student union snipping away at people’s hair. Seriously, you could be anywhere in the union and hear her [probably drunkenly] cackling away. We all suspected she was a friend of the bottle, but this is bad:

-She back-handed a flight attendant’s arse…
-She fell onto the head of a blind passenger and later started pulling the person’s hair…
-She put up a fight when federal officials came on to the plane (which made an emergency landing in North Carolina to remove her)…

Oh, and did we mention she was drunk like whoa?! Lots of people witnessed her drunkeness, so that’s not going to help her in federal court. Yeah, not good.

Sudan’s pants politics

Posted on 07 October 2008 by Michelle

“]Photo by [Nati]More than 35 Sudanese women wearing tight pants were arrested for “disturbing the peace” in Juba, Sudan on Sunday. They were taken by police, but then released without being charged on Monday after appearing in court.

Some of the women were able to avoid arrest by hiding in the Sudanese Gender Minister’s office.

“We saw about 30 girls in two trucks piled up like animals. One girl was just picked up and thrown into the truck,” government worker Nok Duany told Reuters.

Shockingly, the region is seen as a more liberal part of Sudan than the largely Muslim north.

According to SudanForum.net, eyewitnesses saw many women leave the court in blood-stained clothing, clearly beaten…

Condom Bandits

Mexico’s famed Condomovil was stolen last weekend. Fortunately, the outlandish truck with a condom and a shirtless dude emblazoned on the side were recovered at a mall parking lot (where else!?), but the 5,000 condoms inside were gone.

But the crazy thing, to me at least, was that there was this 23-foot inflatable condom that they didn’t take… think of all the stupid stuff they could have done with it (like making a wicked hot condom dress or something). Clearly these were practical thievs, and not college freshmen.

Gold Mule

Gooooooooold

Lots of action at Hy & Mike’s Pawn and Bail Bonds… as you would expect, just by the name of the store…

Some woman desperate for some jewelry stole a couple of 14-karat gold bracelets by swallowing them last week. I mean, good thinking because the bracelets were worth $2000, though I expect that price to skyrocket on ebay since they were exhibits A and B in this woman’s case — especially since the bracelets are back on display at the pawn shop.

At least she can say she’s shit gold!
