I was on a PBS kick last weekend. In fact, I would say that nearly 50 percent of Saturday and Sunday was spent watching Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow on YouTube. And yes, there was a lot of nostalgia that came back, but think about how progressive, and passively educational those shows were. And while Mister Rogers may have put me to sleep half the time, it was a good way to go to your “happy place”… and it was pretty awesome when they did the segments that showed you how things were made.
There have been a ton of great things that have come out of Sesame Street since the 80s, but I don’t care about any of that right now. So here’s a few clips, many of the songs I still can’t get out of my head…
On the Subway! (For those of you who don’t know, yes, this is what New York City really was like.
Who Are The People in Your Neighborhood… a freaking CLASSIC!
Cab Calloway sings “Hi De Ho Man.” Seriously, Sesame Street.
Rubber Duckie
U Really Got a Hold on Me by Smokey Robinson. I really didn’t get a creepy vibe off it then, but that “U” is very, very invasive to Smokey…
“C” is indeed for “Cookie”… so back off!
Seriously, man, just Put Down The Duckie!!!
Celia Cruz sings Sun Sun Babae with Big Bird
Reading Rainbow
I just have this one; I don’t actually remember it, but it was pretty awesome to get such a seriously 80s
Mister Rogers
Yep, just one, but this is so damn cool!!
