Fred Topous Jr., 45, is relatively a fresh release; discharged from the Michigan Department of Corrections supervision in October 2006 according to the AP. He chose the one-lump sum option for $34 million.
I always think of sex offenders living alone without family in creepy old houses in terrible neighborhoods, but this guy has a wife and kids. He said he plans too buy a house, send the kids off to college and “have some fun with his winnings.”
“I want to enjoy a little bit of life,” Topous told state lottery officials. “We’re plain folks. We’ve struggled all our lives.”
Aside from two breaking and entering charges in 1984 and 1988, he pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit sexual penetration in 1999.
“He’s had some tough breaks,” friend and co-worker Jan Westcott told The Grand Rapids Press. “I know some of his secrets, and he knows some of mine. I’m not going any further.” Gross!!!!

Ugh, who wants to imagine a sex offender lining his pockets with lottery money? I’m sure he’s had some tough breaks, but no tougher than his victim(s).

I’m disgusted by that. He had some hard breaks? My goodness. What kind of repenting did he do? Where is the karma here?
More than anything, I’m sad that a couple of my family’s dollars were in the pot he got to take.
