You know what costs too damn much? The gym! I’m essentially locked into a $60/month contract at Bally’s for the next year and a half (Oct. 2006-Oct. 2009). To be fair, that fee covers boy me and my boyfriend, but I really wish I didn’t have to pay the fee at all. Especially because there are 2 Ballys in my area, which both have drawbacks:
The one south of me in Studio City is close and quick to get to, but it’s freaking small. There’s like 6 pieces of equipment and everyone there is like a soap opera star (nothing too big, we’re still in the Valley, mind you).
Then the one north of us in North Hollywood is gigantic with tons of equipment, but it takes a little longer to get to, and it’s PACKED with people during the peak times (and then some). It is a cleaner gym, but the people who go there aren’t quite too keen on locker room etiquette… I’ve seen some crazy shit, as I’m sure you have too.
If you are weighing the cost of gym fees during these rough economic times, consider getting out of your contract if you can, or seeing if you can go without renewing when the time comes. Our local ABC affiliate shows a few ways to abandon the gym thing and save a few bucks each month. As long as you’re not training for Miss Fitness USA, you could probably swing it.
